Christmas 2006

What better time to start my own Blog than during the Christmas season when there are a million things going on. Now that January 1, 2007 has come around, life has calmed down and I have some time to relax. This Christmas Dennis and I had a fabulous holiday season with lots of family and friends. We even survived hosting a turkey dinner on Christmas day for 20 people, thanks to the help of the moms. During the holiday season I always take time out to thank God for how fortunate I am to have all the wonderful people in my life that I do. I am truly blessed!
Christmas Eve we started out at my parents house to exchange gifts and have dinner. Mom grilled burgers and we had all kinds of dips and snacks. It was a nice easy meal and definitely hit the spot. As most Christmas dinners go, we all ate way too much but enjoyed every last bite we had. I always love our casual Ruggles Christmas', there isn't a lot of work to be done so we can spend more time just hanging out together.
After our visit at the Ruggles house, we went to DJ and Bobbie's house for a martini party. Team Anderson/Rorison can definitely host a party! The martini's were amazing and "went down really fast" as Sara can attest to. We all liked the apple martini's the best but the peppermint ones definitely felt more seasonal. It was nice to be with some of our closest friends on Christmas as they are more than just our friends, they are another family.
This year was the first year that Dennis was trying to wake me up on Christmas morning instead of me trying to get him up. We weren't even the last people to get to the Kennedy's on Christmas morning to exchange gifts. As usual there was a massive pile of gifts under the tree which seemed to only take minutes to be torn open to reveal everything we had asked Santa for. After gift opening we ate a quick breakfast and headed home to begin getting ready for our turkey dinner.
I never realized how much work it is to put on a turkey dinner. The whole afternoon was spent in the kitchen with the women cooking and cutting while the boys played pool, fooseball or whatever else they felt like doing. Typical stereotype... I know!! I enjoyed the company of the other women and could have never done it without their help, but wished that it was the men doing the cooking and we got to relax and play games. After dinner, we spent the evening playing games like Catch Phrase and Scene It. We had a fabulous evening together and we even had a few overnight guests since the party went into the early morning hours. I would say that Christmas dinner at the Kennedy Jr.'s was a success.
